Locations
I take a lot of time to scout amazing locations all over Sydney. I know how they look at different times of year, how the light falls, and how accessible they are. Clients often book with me months in advance to get their dream location at the perfect time. Below are some of my favourites and a few Sydney classics.
NORTHERN BEACHES
Long Reef Rock Platform
This stunning location has 300 degree open horizons (stunning light), at low tide unique formations and reflections are easily accessible, at high tide you have shallow waves gently rolling in. There is also access to a remote little sand beach, as well as to driftwood on a rocky beach. It does require some sure footed-ness as you’ll need to walk down from the headland to the rock platform and climb back up. It’s only a 35m elevation gain, and does have stairs, but it’s a trail walk all the same.

Red Hill Reserve
My absolute favourite new location. I discovered the red rock during lock down and loved it enough to do some self portraits there. It’s an easy 600m single track walk to the location.

Long Reef
Long Reef is one of my favourite ocean beaches to shoot at. There’s dunes, grass, waves, a lagoon and reeds. Absolutely gorgeous.

Narrabeen Beach
A gorgeous mix of sand dunes and long, flat beach. If we catch it on the right day the sunset reflects up from the wet sand in an beautiful display.

Narrabeen Lakes
Narrabeen Lakes can create absolutely magical photos on the right day. Golden hour and blue hour is when this spot goes from ordinary to ethereal.

Turimetta Beach
Turimetta beach makes for gorgeous, remote photos. You feel like you’re in a world of your own.

Curl Curl
Curl Curl is a gorgeous ocean beach with a grassy area overlooking a large sand dune.

Clontarf
Clontarf, another harbour beach, is west facing which means gorgeous sunsets. Clontarf is an ideal location for newborn shoots if you’re not feeling up to much after bub arrives. Parking is right next to the location and everything is a short level walk.

Collins Flat
Collins Flat beach at North Head is a lovely beach for children, it’s wild and enclosed with lots of shells, a waterfall and shallow water.

Freshwater
Freshwater has waves, rocks and a little bit of wild.

LOWER NORTH SHORE
Balmoral Beach
Balmoral beach is a popular spot for photography because of it boasts a wide range of options and back drops. Your album can contain photos that look completely remote contrasted by the wooden walkway at the baths or Bather’s Pavilion’s iconic facade. There are unique sandstone backdrops at both the island and the north end.

Chinaman’s Beach
Chinaman’s beach is a secluded little beach off Rosherville Reserve. While you don’t have the wide open view offered by the ocean beaches, Chinaman’s offers beautiful bush, protection from the wind and very rarely has any crowds.

Artarmon Reserve
Artarmon reserve offers a lovely woodland setting with ferns and fallen trees to play on.

Upper North Shore + Hills District
Westleigh H2O
This mountain bike trail network has a spectacular field of grasses and reeds to transport you straight out of the city and into the coutryside.

Rouse Hill Regional Park
This location feels like it’s in the middle of the country side. You have farm out buildings, fields of grasses and in spring and summer there are wild flowers everywhere. This is my recommended choice for clients living in the Hills district who don’t want to travel far.

Sydney South
Wanda Beach, Cronulla
Sand dunes and surf, absolutely breathtaking.

Sydney City
Opera House
If you’re after absolutely iconic photos this is the location for you. Circular Quay works best as a sunrise location, before the crowds move in.
Observatory Hill
Observatory hill in the city has amazing views of the bridge and some beautiful old trees.
